Past Ask Doktor Dave columns…
Only 11 columns were published before Scott’s passing.
You might notice August is missing. Nothing was published that month, in honor of the passing of one of our music community’s most beloved and most talented people, Craig Yerkes. I believe Scott included a memorial he’d written in the September issue, but that, along with a large collection of other content, was lost when the original site went dark.
What you see here is re-constructed from my own archives. I hope you find them entertaining and maybe even a little educational.
Thank you for being here. :^)

Congratulations Dok. I am liking what I see here.
hm
what’s so magical about songwriting is that it’s such a unique process for each songwriter and for each song! great article, scott! i laughed (at myself) at the mention of a metronome, as i am somewhat beat-deaf (a spin on tone-deafness)…
i love that this online mag is coming back to life! yea dr. dave!
Fascinating topic – as someone who took music lessons for years, and has written about music for many more, I still see nothing but a blank nothingness when I think about what it would be like to write a song. Probably why I admire folks like Scott who have the gift.
Oh well, maybe 2010…
