Well I have some new stuff to say about music again! Wow!!!!
I finally got to hear my good friend Doktor Dave play with the Kyle Phelan Band downtown at the concerts at the square @ the NBC building. Dave really wailed during the concert and later I found out the band played on the air @ NBC. Where he and the band were surrounded by the San Diego Charger Cheerleaders. Playing in a band can't be all bad! But more on Dave later!
Dave and I and quite a few of our friends went to see Carlos Olmeda and Citizen Band at Twigs coffee house in University Heights. And here is where I was pleasantly surprised by someone new to all of us. Before Carlos played was another acoustic singer by the name of Michael Robert Cook or just "Cook" I had not heard this guy before and he blew me away. He had a great voice and modulated it very well between soft whispering lyrics but very powerful vocals in other places. His guitar playing was very masterful and didn't make any mistakes that I noticed but I am not a guitar player. His songs were very well written and he has sort of a comedic interlude or introductions of titles between songs. He just moved here from Florida and just got here in San Diego and he was invited to sing opener after doing an open Mike up at Twig's. So look out for this kid to show up more often he is very talented. And I welcome him to the San Diego music scene. I hope to hear more of him. Now I cam e to see Carlos cause I have not heard him in quite a while. The last time being at Scott Wilson's Video Release party and then I talked with him shortly one other time when he was dropping off something to I think it was Michael Tiernan but I can't remember for sure. But Carlos has a new band now called "SuperMice" ,"because their super nice". Those are his new jokes anyway! He and his band were really hot tonight as well! I was just having a stupendous day of good music. And it didn't end with Carlos! Citizen band came to play as well and I thought they were in rare form too! They are always good and Jeff Berkley makes it all look so easy up there on stage. Everybody tonight just seemed to be playing really well, everyone was relaxed and having a good time and there was lots of joking and interaction with the crowd. Everyone was in a being funny type of mood and it wore off on us who were there listening. Afterward many of us stood around laughing and making jokes long after Twig's was closed. It was a great night one that will one of those nights you remember for quite a while.

The day leading up to the night of great music and fun started off like I said with the Kyle Phelan band and my friend Dave who plays lead for the band. This was the first time I have seen Kyle and I really liked many of the songs that were played he has a style close to other 's I have heard but his songs are well written and interesting. Of course for my the highpoint was finally seeing Dave play. I have occasionally hung out with Dave and listened to him talk music, but until you hear someone play its just talk to you. You know its the truth but its just something you have to experience in person. In a way I guess Dave is kind of my hero now I swear he could give Carlos Santana a run for his money. Dave id that good and he makes it look like he is hardly trying to play. Just kinda "BAM" and there it is, he wail's. So if you have never seen Doktor Dave Sawyer play or you know him and still have never heard him play you should really try and get out to see him and the Kyle Phelan Band. I don't think you will be disappointed! In fact if your reading this stop reading it and go click on some MySpace links on my friends section and start finding out where some of these people play. Most of the time it is free or a small cover and it's worth 10 times more to see any of the talent around town! Go out and see some of it! I'm Out!
