I know everyone is waiting for a new MyWeek in Music. So I better get one out. The new week starts tomorrow, and I have been caught up doing some drawing. Some friends asked me to draw something for them so I have been doing just that for a couple of days. I just haven't had time to write anything.
For those of you new here I write a weekly blog on music I see during the week locally here in San Diego. I think San Diego is going to be the new hot spot for new and upcoming music. And I feel it is my honor to let people know everywhere the kind of talent we have here in the San Diego Music Scene. Most of what I go see is Acoustic/ Alternative / or something new sometimes. Usually a lot of people would find weird to find out I am a headbanger from the beginning and just recently found out how much I love live music and I have always liked all music no matter what genre. I don't write about Hip-hop or Rap but I do listen to it occasionally. If I do see some somewhere I will write about it and you will be the first to know it!
Well my week usually starts on Wednesday. But Wednesday was uneventful for me this week. I ended up just sitting in a bar with a friend talking about music and guitars. On Thursday I went to see Kerri Dopart perform at the Brass Rail in Hillcrest. Brooklyn also asked me to come so that was my destination for the night. The Show was put on by Mono Mono (A.K.A Jeffrey Berringer). And was billed as the Dream Line-up with 7:30 Francis Charlotte, 8:00 Brooklyn, 8:30 Sweet Joyce Ann, 9:00 Laura Keubel, 9:30 Jefferson Jay, 10:00 Kerri Dopart Trio, 10:30 Tim Mudd, 11:00 11:30 Alex Arndt. 12:00 Jennifer Jayden.
Now I was the first one at the bar and I listened to everyone up to Kerri Dopart who asked me to come! Francis Charlotte was first and had a very haunting sound. She bills herself as alternative music and she gave me a free CD but don't expect a freebie, I think she gave it to me because I write about music. Brooklyn was next and was phenomenal as usual. If you missed last weeks MyWeek then you should go back and read about this great singer/ Songwriter. On her last couple of songs she was accompanied by a fantastic Violin player named Alicia Ruggierio. Besides being really cute she can play a mean fiddle. Next, I found out my friend Sweet Joyce Ann was really very good. I had only seen her do one song during one of Cathryn Beeks "The Game". But I was pleasantly surprised! Laura Keubel was excellent as always and I plan to do a focus on her soon. I also was surprised by Jefferson Jay he is always fun and obnoxious and I love everything he does actually. If you ever get to see one of the shows he does you will be very entertained. And he sings and writes songs too! One of my favorites (although it gets stuck in your head) is a song called "Anytime at All". It's a great song and a crowd favorite. Which brings us to Kerri, but I didn't get to see her perform. When I helped Brooklyn out to her car with her Keyboard she offered a ride. If anyone knows me, they know I have to depend on the bus service in San Diego, and they don't run so well late at night. So I always need a ride or I walk. So I was very upset that I missed out on hearing her and the others but the show was so good so far I am sure it only got better.
Brooklyn decided she wanted to go a favorite hangout for us but when we got there it was closed. Alicia was following us and Brooklyn called the ever fun Doktor Dave to join us and we ended up at a little Irish pub in Clairemont where we got to hear an authentic Irish performer named Tony Cummings. He sang some good ol' Irish tunes and he noticed that Alicia (who doesn't like to leave her violin in her car) had brought it into the bar and Tony asked her up to play. We had never seen Tony before but it sounded like fun to Alicia who went up and played like three songs with him. It was lots of fun. Obviously not something planned but fun just the same.
Well this was a busy week. On Friday I went to see SweetTooth (whoops, did I say SweetTooth? I must have them on the brain or something.) I meant Deadline Friday and SuperUnloader. In the next installment I write about these two bands and I didn't make one band typo!. Saturday I stayed home I think????? And Sunday I went to a televised version of Listen Local's "The Game" at Cosmos in La Mesa. Since it was such a jam-packed weekend. I have decided to write about the rest of the week I just mentioned tomorrow. So there will be an extra MyWeek in Music going up late tomorrow after everybody gets a chance to read this one. Tomorrow I am going to Winston's to see "Hot Chicks In Bands" performing will be 8:00 Podunk Nowhere 8:45 Julia Othmer 9:35 Barbara Nesbitt 10:25 Compass Rose 11:15 Not Your Mom 12:05 Revenge Club. If you get a chance come see these hot chicks. You won't be sorry! And say hi to me! I'm Out
