MyWeek in Music March 14th to March 21stby Scott Zensen
Well so far the blog is going strong, but there are still tons to do! Lots of new stuff will be popping up all the time so check back often? Also look for the beginning of next month for the implementation of a radio player on every page, playing only local musicians!
You will be able to turn it off or pick through the play list. You will be able to hear what those people I keep writing about sound like right here on the page or anywhere on the site.
Other good news is I have a nice camera now, so when I show up at someone’s gig I can take a decent picture. But at first it will be an all new learning curve because I have never had a Digital SLR camera before. Very Many years ago I use to be a professional photographer and had a lot of 35mm SLR equipment. But I took different pictures then and this is new to me. But I intend to have fun doing it. To all my musician friends if I get in your face too much with flash or camera. Please tell me?
Other news! Starting soon there will be a news page where you can find news that has happened when it has happened instead of waiting to read it in the weekly blog. It will be updated as soon as I hear about it. And that means if you hear something about music locally or music in general that is of interest, then send me an email. Until I have my email fixed on this site you can always still message me at MySpace. Email feedback will be up soon though!
Great news! If you haven't heard it already (because it happened right after the closure!) Twigg's is still open!!! Demand was so great for Twigg's not to close their doors that John Ciccolella went right to work finding a solution! So after the public outcry! A deal was struck for the Green Room to continue right across the street from the original green room. At 4601 Park Blvd. So yay!!! We haven't lost Twigg's after all?
No pictures this week but there will be next week for sure!
Be sure to check out the Shows on the Near Horizon Section for all the tons of St. Patrick's Day celebrations!
So my week has been pretty busy with fixing up the site so I only got out to two shows this week. Both on the same night! Last Friday I went to the 7pm show at Kirin Sushi to see Brooklyn play. Several musician friends who got up to play with her and to play a couple of songs themselves joined her. Joe Cardillo played Saxophone and Flute and if anyone has seen any of his shows then you would realize that those are only two of the many instruments the multi-talented musician plays. Accompanying Brooklyn and Joe was also another musician playing percussion. His name was Jay Bradley and he is in a band but I haven't heard them so the name didn't stick. Brooklyn always sounds great but it was nice to hear the same songs with the new jazzier sound of a saxophone. Both guys took turns up at the mike and Joe Cardillo borrowed Brooklyn’s guitar and showed some of his other talents like singing and playing guitar. Normally when you hear Joe do a show he has more instruments and a loop station. Sometimes he is his own back-up singer. But he sounded great as always. I had never heard jay sing before and he played Brooklyn's guitar like that was his main instrument. I don't know if it was or not but the songs he did were pretty good!
Later that evening I went to the Boat & Ski for "The Game" The Listen Local presentation where there are song titles presented to musicians a month in advance to write a song to the titles and then come and play their version for everyone to hear. I got there late so I missed a lot of people. But the song titles were "Good News" and "From Here". My favorite singers were two who sang in the first round. Those were The Grass Gypsy's and Erica from Listen Local. Erica has sung before but she has a beautiful voice and should sing more often. Other singers that night were Derek Evans, JR Robinson, Kevin Danzig and others. After The Game was over we were treated to the great sounds of Southern rock blues from General Lee. The lead guitarist from the band may have not have been as good as Johnny Lang but he sure came close. He is a very talented guitarist, but one friend wondered why he was so young and all his band mates were very much older than he was. I just put it up to maybe there are not many musicians who like to play that kind of blues locally. But they were a great band and it was a lot of fun!
Well I didn't get out much and I hope this isn't a trend but I have been sitting at my computer for like 18 hour days lately and I am burning the candle at both ends and the middle too! Well Gotta go... I promise more next week!
