Well MyWeek in Music is still going to be a little weak this week as faar as shows are concerned. I only got to one show, but I have lots of news to tell. I will run those down to you in a minute. Also I want to talk to you about the San Diego Indie Music Festival. Below you will find the poster for the Music Festival and below the poster you will find specific details about the times individual artists will be performing, basically what time and what stage. Also where to get tickets for the event. In the Shows On The Near Horizon section you will find other info like where the event will be held and other pertinent info at a glance. Plus you will find that I stopped being lazy and fixed the Shows on the Near horizon section like I originally intended to make it easier for you to find the info you are looking for!
First some News! Twigg's Green Room is closing down for good. apparently they have a clause in their rent agrement with the landlord for mthem not to have music. but the landlord was letting it slide. But due to the many noise complaints from neighbor's and the people who live above. The landlord had decided to exercise the caluse in the lease agrement. There is only one more show coming up on wednesday and my friend Will Edwards very early yesterday sent me an email about the upcoming closure. And I thought I would share it with you here. Other Artists sentiments will be shown also that were posted eventually after the news broke yesterday! The open mic on the 28th will be the last show!
From Will Edwards:
Twiggs Green Room is closing its doors to music forever. It's been nearly 6 years to the day that I played my first-ever open mic at Twiggs and my musical life has been bound to it ever since. For so many reasons, I'm sorry to see the Green Room (and that part of my history) pass into memory alone. It was, in ways, my birthplace.
Truely, the oldest and most widely reputed, living open mic in San Diego is Twiggs on a Wednesday night. This Wednesday, February 28 will be the last of its kind. So, be there to celebrate and share the gratitude that so many people share for the Green Room and what it has offered to so, so many musicians and music fans. The music will remain. So will all the songs and artists that were given room to breathe there.
I wonder what the next chapter will bring,
-Will Edwards

"Quite possibly the worst news I've heard in years..."
Sorry guys but my show at Twiggs on Thursday is cancelled because Twiggs is shutting down its music venue as of February 28th!!
My surrogate family... I will miss our weekly gatherings and the sense of community that Twiggs fostered among San Diego musicians.
This Wednesday will be the last open mic. PLEASE come out and say goodbye.
You don't know how many times today I've had to stop myself from crying. I love Twiggs, it's been my absolute favorite venue, the place where I had my very first show and most importantly the people i've met there who've encouraged me, you've been the reason that I come back week after week.
I am absolutely heartbroken, speechless.

Hi Everyone,
So, I just heard on Friday that Twiggs was unable to have loud drum
music, due to noise issues. But I didn't know that would lead to a
complete music shut-down! This is soo very sad. Please come out
for the last open mic hosted by the fabulous Tim Mudd at the awesome
Twiggs on Park Blvd this Wednesday night to see old friends and say
thanks for the memories!!
Jessica :(
From Chuck Schiele:
Twigg's is a legendary room for San Diego music. I've made a lot of friends there, and recall lots of good memories. I played there every Thursday and like one weekend a month, for about 2 years: along with dropping by on the Wednesday and weekend shows. Everyone local has played there, while other people have heard of it all the way across the county. With the loss of Twigg's goes a chunk of the acoustic scene. From a musician's point of view it was very comfortable to play. Cozy... The walls transformed into an art museum.... creative types running about the place, chattering all night long, jacked on coffee... Johnny Ciccolella didn't just run the place.... he induced a scene. And he's not just a professional friend, he's a good friend.
Thanks for all the great years, Twiggs, but we miss you already. Chuck Schiele
From the Twigg's Website and the owners:
Unfortunately, February 28, 2007 will be the last live music performance in our Green Room.
Our lease has always had a clause stating that we would have "no live music." Our landlords have been kind enough to overlook this clause until now. Noise levels coming from the Green Room, however, have been an on-going problem that we have been unable to keep under control. At this point, we have no option but to honor the "no live music" clause in our lease.
The Green Room has been a wonderful thing and we appreciate and thank all the musicians who have played here.
It was great fun, but it was just one of those things.
Thanks,
Dan and Bernie
Farewell Twigg's!You will be missed by the entire musical community from the visiting musicians to the local musicians and the whole music going public. You will be missed!
Other news:
I have been talking for months now about how difficult it is to get a decent looking newsletter/review/magazine style page for you all to read here at myspace. And I have been hinting at taking it off myspace. That looks like it may be the reality. You may still see it here on myspace as an RSS feed and on its own website eventually but for now this may be the last post here! The Troubadour has shown some interest in my blogging there now! The Troubadour site has gone through some amazing changes in the last 6 months and it looks really nice! They want to start a musical community there, something on the order of myspace for Local San Diego Music. But it is a work in progress and some of the first changes will be implementing a forum for the musical community and the addition of my MyWeek In Music Blog. So in the near future I will be posting there. Then after we figure out the logistics we want to put it on its own website and RSS feed the new week's postings to both myspace and the Troubadour site. Therefore essentially giving people three different ways to get to read my blogs and read about whats going on in the San Diego Music Scene. But like anything, this is a work in prgress and things will change here and there so you will find the site constanly changing as ideas morph into other possibilities. And things fall through the cracks all the time so just keep a look out for all the changes in the near future!
